ALEXANDRA FOX

 

ALEX FOX is an Occupational Therapist (MSc OT Reg. BC), graphic designer, photographer, and videographer originally hailing from the island of Newfoundland. Throughout her career she has lived and worked in Nova Scotia, Ghana, and Ontario, and she now calls Vancouver, British Columbia home.

Alex is a graduate of Dalhousie’s MSc Occupational Therapy program, and currently works part-time as an Occupational Therapist  in Vancouver on unceded xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) territories. She also works as a freelance artist and has travelled and worked for NGO, non-profits, and social justice organizations in Thailand, India, Malawi, France, and other countries in Asia, Africa, and Europe.

WORK EXPERIENCE


 

Occupational Therapist (MSc OT Reg. BC) – Community Therapists

Lower Mainland, BC / Sept 2022 – Present
  • Context: Clinic and community-based rehabilitation services that provide a range of assessment, treatment, and consultation services for clients impacted by physical, cognitive and mental health limitations arising from injury or other medical conditions. Community Therapists (CTI) works with individuals who have been impacted by workplace or motor vehicle accidents, illness, neurodevelopmental conditions and a range of other medical impairments. CTI accepts more than 2000 new clients each year.

  • Role: Full occupational therapy services (assessment, treatment/intervention, referral, discharge and documentation) for private clients funded through WSBC, ICBC,  and/or private insurance in the areas of mental health, concussion/mTBI management, traumatic psychological injury, chronic pain, return to work planning, and equipment provision.

iScope Concussion & Pain Clinics

  • Context: iScope Concussion & Pain Clinics is Canada’s only national neuro-focused rehabilitation clinic with a neurologist-led interdisciplinary team ready to address all aspects of concussion. The iScope team includes sub-specialized physicians, nurse practitioners, rehabilitation professionals, and technologists who are trained to manage concussion, chronic pain, and neurological disorders. From testing and diagnosing, to conducting treatment, iScope treats all physical, cognitive, emotional, and sleep-related symptoms under one roof.

Occupational Therapy Coordinator / January 2022 – August 2022

  • Role: Supported the OT Team Leads in managing all aspects of the current OT Team (consisting of 16 OTs and 3 OTAs) including resource development, administrative and clinical support for OT Team members, development and facilitation of clinical trainings, waitlist management and triage system development, and development/implementation of administrative processes and tools. Provided clinical coverage to OT Team and urgent referrals as needed, in addition to a part-time caseload of 8-10 clients.

Occupational Therapist (MSc OT Reg. BC) / August 2021 – August 2022

  • Role: Full occupational therapy services (assessment, treatment/intervention, referral, discharge and documentation) for clients funded privately or by ICBC who were experiencing chronic pain and/or post-concussion syndrome. Managed a caseload of 25-30 clients, supporting them in the areas of cognitive rehab, mental health, pain, and sleep. Continued to manage a clinical caseload of 8-10 patients upon promotion to OT Coordinator.

 

Occupational Therapist (MSc OT Reg. NS) – CBI Health

Cape Breton, NS / Sept 2020 – June 2021
  • Context: As the largest provider of private community healthcare services in Canada, CBI offers physiotherapy, occupational therapy, exercise and behavioural therapies, as well as physician, chiropractic, vocational, nursing, speech, massage, and home health services.

  • Role: Full occupational therapy services (assessment, treatment/intervention, referral, discharge & documentation) for private clients funded through WCB, auto insurance, VAC, and/or private insurance in the areas of mental health, concussion/mTBI management, traumatic psychological injury, hand therapy, chronic pain, return to work planning, and equipment provision. Full caseload of 30-35 patients. Provided additional OT services to two local long-term care facilities.

Total System Failure is the working title for an independent research project focused on abuses of power, systemic harassment, and cover-ups in the humanitarian aid, development, and NGO sector.

Working to develop an African artists collective who use art and communications as a way to show the world their vision for Africa, and provide top-quality communications materials to non-profits and NGOs working in Africa.

Tamale, Ghana & Toronto, Canada (2010 – 2012 )

AfriCAN and Les Lionnes are Canadian-owned clothing companies working with small-scale tailors in Northern Ghana. Worked directly with Ghanaian tailors to oversee production and manage quality control. Managed online marketing and communications with public and potential buyers/partners of the company (Holt Renfrew).
